This beautiful poster has been re-mastered from an original 1940s image of Winslow Arizona on Route 66. The image shows the famous corner in Winslow mentioned in the Eagles iconic 1972 song “Standing on a Corner in Winslow Arizona.”
This view is looking east on old Route 66 (W. Second St.) toward the intersection of N. Kinsley Ave. The Winslow Drug Building at the left is now the site of the town’s famous “Standin on the Corner Park.” The poster was created in the distinctive WPA style of the 1930s.
The vibrant colors and detail of these classic images have been painstakingly brought back to life to preserve a great piece of history.
The 13"x19" format is an excellent image size that looks great as a stand-alone piece of art, or grouped as a visual statement. These posters require no cutting, trimming, or custom sizing, and a wide variety of these frames are readily available at your local craft or hobby retailer, and online.
A great vintage print for your home, shop, or business!
WINSLOW ARIZONA HISTORY
Winslow, Arizona, began as an 1880s railroad hub, and it boomed when Route 66 opened in 1926. The town was named after railroad president General Edward F. Winslow.
Winslow is located in northern Arizona, about 58 miles east of Flagstaff. It quickly grew into a vital stop for cross-country travelers. When Route 66 was designated in 1926, Winslow became a major stop for road-trippers. The city buzzed with motor courts, diners, and gas stations.
One of Winslow’s most famous landmarks was the La Posada Hotel. Built in 1930, this luxury destination was designed by famous architect Mary Colter. It offered a grand oasis for weary cross-country travelers.
In the late 1970s, Interstate 40 was built, and it bypassed downtown Winslow, dramatically reducing tourism in the town. The town was saved by a rock and roll song in 1972, when The Eagles released the hit song "Take It Easy." The famous lyrics state: "Well, I'm standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.”
Today, Winslow is a popular Route 66 road trip destination for its famous Standin' on the Corner Park. Opened in 1999, this park features a life-sized bronze statue of an easy-going man, a two-story mural, and a permanent flatbed Ford.
