This beautiful poster has been re-mastered from an original 1940s image of Route 66 in Kingman Arizona. The poster was created in the distinctive WPA Modernist style of the 1930s.

The image shows The Desert Drugs store, the Old Trails Garage, the Thompson-Mulligan Building, and the famous Beale Hotel built in 1899. The Old Trails Garage, Thompson-Mulligan, and Beale Hotel buildings are still intact on the highway, but the drug store has been demolished.

This view is looking east on old Route 66 (Present-day E. Andy Devine Ave.) near the intersection of N. Third Street. The art deco Desert Drugs sign has been relocated about a hundred feet west of its original location.

The vibrant colors and detail of these classic images have been painstakingly brought back to life to preserve a great piece of history.

The 13"x19" format is an excellent image size that looks great as a stand-alone piece of art, or grouped as a visual statement. These posters require no cutting, trimming, or custom sizing, and a wide variety of these frames are readily available at your local craft or hobby retailer, and online.

A great vintage print for your home, shop, or business!

KINGMAN ARIZONA HISTORY

Kingman, Arizona began as a railroad and mining town in 1882. The town served as a hub for nearby gold mines, cattle ranchers, and World War II aviators. Kingman was named after Lewis Kingman, who mapped the rail route.

Kingman's history links to the Old West, railroads, and the famous Route 66. In 1857, Lieutenant Edward Beale surveyed a trail across the desert using an experimental Camel Corps, and the route became the Beale Wagon Road. Beale’s Road eventually became a part of National Old Trails Road, which became Route 66 in 1926.

When Route 66 was established in 1926, the highway brought thousands of travelers through downtown Kingman, and it became known as “The Heart of Route 66.”

The U.S. military built the Kingman Army Airfield in 1942 to support World War II operations, and thousands of aerial gunners trained here. The site is now the Kingman Airport, which still honors its history.

Kingman’s premier hotel built of stone and brick in 1899 was named after Edward Beale. As of mid-2026, the hotel is no longer operable and is considered abandoned. The hotel remains a key, albeit deteriorated, piece of Kingman's railroad and route 66 heritage.
