This beautiful reproduction poster has been re-mastered from an original 1904 advertisement for Griffon Motorcycles. The poster features artwork by noted French artist Frederic-Hugo d'Alesi (1849-1906). The scene shows a man wearing riding gloves, boots and a cap, on his Griffon Motorcycle which is easily motoring up a hill near a seaside town.

The vibrant colors and detail of this classic image have been painstakingly brought back to life to preserve a great piece of history.

The high-resolution image is printed on heavy archival photo paper, on a large-format, professional giclée process printer. The poster is shipped in a rigid cardboard tube, and is ready for framing.

The 13"x19" and 24”x36” formats are excellent image sizes that look great as a stand-alone piece of art, or as a grouped visual statement. These posters require no cutting, trimming, or custom framing, and a wide variety of these frames are readily available at your local craft or hobby retailer, and online. The 24”x36” size has a 1” white border.

A great vintage print for your home, shop, or business!

HISTORY OF GRIFFON MOTORCYCLES

The Griffon Bicycle Company was a French company that was formed in 1898, by Eugène Peugeot. The company built their first motorcycles in 1902 using one of their existing bicycle models as a platform for a Zédel gasoline engine.

In 1903, Griffon displayed 10 different models at a Paris show. The company began racing their machines with good success. In 1904, one of their machines achieved an amazing speed of 110 km/h (65 mph). The company’s factory team riders and privateers riding Griffon machines began dominating the competition.

The company experienced early success, and by 1905, the Griffon factories in Courbevoie employed 300 people. Motorcycles produced in the following years offered 2¾ HP and 3 HP single-cylinders, and 3½ and 5 HP twin-cylinder models. Griffon also offered tricars, and between 1906 and 1910 they manufactured cyclecars powered by Aster and Buchet single-cylinder engines.

In the years before World War I, Griffon’s sales and production declined, and shortly after Armistice, the company merged with Peugeot. Peugeot Cycles and Peugeot Automobiles separated in 1926, and beginning in 1927, the model ranges for the two brands were nearly identical.

In the 1950s, Peugeot formed the France Motor Cycle (FMC) company which combined the brands Griffon, Aiglon, and Automoto. Peugeot built motorcycles under the Griffon marque until at least 1956.
