HISTORY OF BEAR VALLEY MOUNTAIN RESORT
Bear Valley Mountain Resort is a ski area in the western United States, located in the Sierra Nevada of California, on Highway 4 between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. It is about three hours southeast of Sacramento and one hour from Angels Camp.
Bear Valley Mountain Ski Resort was founded by Bruce Orvis and opened in 1967. That same year, Bear Valley Village began developing to support the resort and growing community.
The ski area was originally called Mt. Reba Ski Bowl, and it was opened for the 1967/68 season. The resort's name was changed from Bear Valley Ski Company to Bear Valley Ski Company in 1991.
After being owned by the Dundee Corporation (2005–2014) and Skyline International (2014–2023), the resort was purchased by California Mountain Resorts Co. (a subsidiary of Invision Capital) in November 2023. The resort was established to meet the growing demand for winter sports and is known for its commitment to snow science, offering diverse terrain for skiing and snowboarding.
