This fully illustrated book is a "must have" for any ski enthusiast, or local history buff. The 207-page paperback book contains numerous rare photos, maps, and ephemera from Southern California's earliest and sometimes forgotten ski resorts and their founders.
Ingrid P. Wicken, the foremost authority on the history of skiing in southern California, has written the first comprehensive book on this subject. A native to the area, she has skied in Southern California's mountains for three decades.
She earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Physical Education from California Polytechnic University, Pomona. Her Master's thesis was a biomechanical investigation of the diagonal stride on skis vs. roller skis. She has since compiled an extensive bibliography of science and medicine in skiing. In her personal ski library, she has collected more than 1,300 books on skiing-making this one of the largest personal collections of its kind.
In 1988, she was awarded her Nordic ski instructor's certification from the Professional Ski Instructors of America. An Associate Professor of Physical Education, she has taught at Riverside Community College since 1989.
