HISTORY OF PERKINS OUTBOARD MOTORS LIMITED
 
Perkins Outboard Motors Limited began as a division of Perkins Engines Company, of Peterborough, England. Perkins purchased the Outboard Motor Division of The Oliver Corporation and began production of Perkins outboard motors in 1959.
 
The first outboard line consisted of 6, 16 and 35 horsepower units – all twin cylinder gasoline two-stroke engines. In the early 1960s, 6.5, 18, and 40 horsepower units were introduced.
 
After some modest successes and innovative designs, Perkins phased out their outboard motor line in the mid-1960s to focus on their core function of building diesel engines.
