HISTORY OF VIKING OUTBOARD MOTORS
 
The T. Eaton Company Limited of Ontario, Canada, began marketing outboard motors through their department stores and catalogs in 1933. The Eaton’s Viking outboard motors were built by several companies between 1933 and 1964. The Viking motors first sold in 1933 were 4-horsepower opposed twin models, built by Evinrude Motors. These motors were the first units to carry the “Eaton's Viking” name, which became the store’s brand.
 
The Outboard Motor Corporation, or OMC was formed in the depression era from a merger of Evinrude, ELTO, and Johnson Motors. After World War II, OMC began producing off-brand motors through their Gale division. Eaton’s sold motors built by Gale, that were manufactured in Peterborough, Ontario, through 1964. Eaton’s began to market Chrysler built outboard motors when OMC closed their Gale division in 1964.
