HISTORY OF THE PEOPLE’S 1912 LOS ANGELES AVIATION MEET
 
The third People's Aviation Meet was held in Los Angeles on January 20 through 29, 1912. The event was a huge success with over 20,000 spectators per day.
 
An estimated 254,000 tickets were sold, and gate receipts were roughly $137,500.
 
Streetcars ran to Dominguez Fields every 2 minutes from the Pacific Electric station in Los Angeles. Aviation pioneer Thaddeus S. C. Lowe brought his 9-year-old granddaughter, Florence Leontine Lowe, who later became better known as "Pancho" Barnes. 
 
Other notable aviation events from 1912 include: Glenn Curtiss flew the first flying-boat, a converted Curtiss A2, Jules Vedrine made the first 100 mph flight in his Monocoque Deperdussin.
Frank Coffyn filmed New York from the air using a cinema camera while controlling his aircraft with his feet and knees.
